Opportunities to work as a research assistant within the NCCR "Evolving Language" network
We are hiring!
1) Research Assistant Position (20-40%)
2) We are looking for a detail-oriented RA to assist with correcting XML conversion errors in our digital edition project. Our project aims at creating a new critical and digital edition of selected parts of the Atharvaveda Paippalāda (a collection of Sanskrit ritual texts). The editorial workflow includes automatic conversions from odt documents to XML. To easily integrate different odt sources (project-internal and external) into the existing workflow, minor manual corrections are required.
The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of XML, good computer skills and a keen eye for detail.
Main responsibilities:
XML Corrections: Identify formatting errors in converted XML documents. This includes comparing the xml file against the source odt document and correcting formatting issues (e.g. missing styles, tables or paragraphs)
Citations Management: Manage and update bibliographic references in the texts by creating links to an existing Zotero database
Annotation and Markup: Utilize an in-house annotation tool to apply the above-mentioned corrections
Starting date: 1 October 2025
Duration: 6 months
