Locality Dynamics
The capacity of exploiting non-adjacent relations between elements to convey complex meanings is a fundamental feature of human language, which however might also be present in animal communication, as recent research is starting to unveil.
In the Locality Dynamics task, as part of the NCCR Evolving Language, we aim at investigating the ontogenetic and evolutionary origins of this capacity.
This project should help us better understand the core of this capacity in humans and artificial systems, and allow us to establish new points of comparison with non-human animals.
