Information Load
In the Information Load Task (NCCR Evolving Language) we ask how communicative complexity can be compared across species and languages. Human languages and communicative systems of other species differ in complexity. Research suggests that learning effectively is enhanced in environments with low entropy, that is, in settings with less unpredictability and disorder. However, accurately measuring this effect remains a challenge. Here, we develop methods to measure entropy across species and languages.
