The roles of meerkats are clearly defined: rearing their young, looking for food, watching for danger
Marta Manser from the University of Zurich is one of the leading meerkat researchers. She has been studying the behavior of meerkat groups for 25 years. Some aspects of meerkat behavior is very similar to that of humans. Communicating with each another, for example, is vital if the cute animals want to survive in the wild. The researcher has identified around 30 different meerkat calls.
